1:00 PM — Navarasa Dance Theater
Kempu (Red), a dance performance by Aparna Sindhoor and Anil Natyaveda, exposes the different elements of red: passion, attraction, fear, and love. Navarasa Dance Theater (NDT) is an Indo-American dance theater company that creates a mesmerizing blend of traditional styles. Founded by renowned dancer/choreographer Dr. Aparna Sindhoor, NDT has been touring all over the world, including USA, Canada, Germany, and India.
2:00 PM — Lorraine Chapman, The Company (LCTC)
The Lorraine Chapman Company embraces and executes musicality with a theatrical approach, and explores the versatility of the speed in which one can express themselves through movement. For ArtBeat 2011 LCTC presents “Pulp Tango,” a fiery dance about passion and memory, and two excerpts from “Good Enough for Me,” set to the music of Tom Waits.
3:00 PM — Danny Swain Dance Company
Danny Swain Dance Company has been presenting modern dance since 1997. The work ranges from idiosyncratic to lush and fluid, with an explosive flair, and a touch of humor. The company will present its signature piece, “At Your Own Discretion” which Theodore Bale of Dance Magazine called “characterized by theatrical power and irony.” Danny Swain will also present its newest work “Square Dance” an intricate quartet with and ironic name.
4:00 PM — Contrapose Dance
Contrapose Dance, now in its third season, is known for its bold, uniquely original repertoire. The company, comprised of highly skilled dancers, continues to actively expand its exciting program and collaborates with a variety of artists to produce unique art experiences. Ultimately, Contrapose Dance hopes to bring both tradition and originality to a new generation of dance lovers.
