Intercambio Language and Culture Exchange is a way to trade language skills with native speakers. Intercambio pairs SAC folks looking to practice Spanish or Portuguese conversation (sometimes other languages, too) with foreign-born ESL students looking to practice English conversation. We launched Intercambio in 2008. We typically meet once a week on a weekday evening; sessions usually last 8 weeks. Working in pairs or small groups, we spend half the time speaking one language, half speaking another language. Participants are both students and teachers!
Past Intercambio groups have included participants from Chile, Peru, Brazil, Nepal, China, Haiti, El Salvador, Guatemala and, of course, the United States! We usually end Intercambio sessions with a global potluck. Many intercambio participants have become involved in other SAC programming, like the Nibble blog and cooking classes and the Illuminations Tour.
Note: Intercambio works best when people have an intermediate (or higher) level of a foreign language.
